Trip to Croke Park

St. Rynagh’s U-10 footballers went to Croke Park to see the Leinster Finals on 11/07-2010, under the management of Garry Daly, Patrick Regan and Mark Devery.   Much appreciated help for the day was provided by Sean Rigney, Martin Houlihan, Cormac O’Connor, Valerie Daly, Mairéad Daly, Ann Daly, Gráinne Dolan, Sinéad Daly, Paul Daly and Conor Clancy.

The day began in Cloghan GAA pitch at 8am as 50 children arrived for the trip.  They boarded the bus quickly and sang the whole way to Dublin, with the encouragement of the terrific teenagers.  The bus stopped at the Phoenix Park for a picnic, a game of football and a view of a herd of reindeer that paused for a few minutes to study this lively group of young people.  As the children were returning to the bus President Mary McAleese passed with a military escort, much to everyone’s excitement and delight.

The group arrived at Croke Park for the Minor Leinster Final between Offaly and Longford.  The children roared and cheered as they saw the St. Rynagh’s players, Joseph O’Connor, Pat Camon and Niall Wynne, run on to the pitch for the pre-match warm-up.   Unfortunately it wasn’t Offaly’s day but all of the young spectators hoped that they would be representing their county in Croke Park some day.  After the Minor and Senior matches, they headed for home, stopping off at McDonnell’s for dinner.

Both adults and children had a great day and the management wish to express sincere thanks to all who contributed to its success.
