The club would like to say well done to our Offaly Cross Country Champions. Paul Buckley is one of the club physiotherapists and Maire Triona O’Connor is married to the great Gary O'Connor. Both won their Offaly Cross Country Champions in Tullamore recently.

Offaly County Senior Cross Country Championships : Buckley take Senior Titles

A beautiful day greeted the athletes at last Sunday’s County Senior Cross Country Championships in Charleville Castle Estate, Tullamore.  The highlights of the day were impressive front running displays by Ferbane’s Paul Buckley and Tullamore Harriers Pauline Curley, which saw them retain their Offaly Senior Cross Country titles on Sunday last. Paul Buckley was in determined mood as he set off and he only had Catch Grennan (Tullamore Hariers) for company after the first mile.  This pair were chased by Tullamore Harriers John Donegan, Johnny Feery, Ronan Duffy and Jody O’ Reilly ahead of the rest of the field.  Paul Buckley poured on the pressure as the race went on and he pulled well away from Catch Grennan to win by over 150 meters.  Grennan ran a fine race and John Donegan also ran well to take third, with Johnny Feery showing good form in fourth as he prepares for the Masters International in ten days time. Jody O’ Reilly, in fifth place, completed the scoring four for Tullamore Harriers as they retained the team title.

Great Day for Harriers in Charleville Estate

Last Sunday Tullamore Harriers hosted the Leinster Juvenile and Intermediate Cross Country Championships. After weeks of preparation and a lot of heavy rain,Sunday turned out to be a lovely sunny day and Charleville Estate where the Championships were held looked beautiful in the winter sunshine. As the national anthem was been played prior to the racing one could feel a sense of expectation that this was going to be a good day. And so it proved to be with our Intermediate men and women continuing on the earlier success of our juvenile members.

First up were the intermediate women run over 4000 metres on a very heavy course and here, Maire Triona O’Connor was always up with the leading group and as the race progressed it developed into a head to head battle between Maire Triona and Mullingar’s Mary Scully.Willed on by a vocal home support Maire Triona ran a great race but could not shake off Scully and with three hundred metres Scully made her move and pulled away from Maire Triona who battled on to finish a brilliant second place. Rose Masterson also ran very well and finished 10th while Mary Daly and Georgina Touhey packed well for the team in 22nd and 23rd respectively.
