St Rynaghs Senior Footballers played Clara in the Div 2 league in Cloghan GAA grounds on Tuesday week last May 24th.  Conditions were perfect for football.  Clara got off to a great start with three points from play in the first 10 minutes.  It wasn’t until the 15-minute mark; the Saints raised their first white flag from center forward Gary Mahon.  He scored another fine point from play immediately afterward and midfielder Ciaran Flannery made it 3 on the trot with a fine point from play.  Clara got back on the scoreboard with a 30m free and in the 25th minute were awarded a penalty which they put over the bar.  Down the other end of the field Gary Mahon slotted over a 30m free and before half time Clara scored a point from play to leave the half time score Clara 0-6 St Rynaghs 0-4.  St Rynaghs came out with all guns blazing in the second half with 6 points without reply from right half back Odhran McIntyre, midfielder Ciaran Flannery, full forward Paudie Mulhare with two, midfielder Paul Quirke and Sub Timmy Gilmore who’s strong running was causing huge problems in the Clara defense.  It wasn’t until the 20th minute Clara registered their 1st point from a 30m free.  Midfielder Ciaran Flannery who was having a great game replied with his 3rd point from play and in the 25th minute right half forward Sean Kenny scored a brilliant goal.  Five more point from play from hardworking right corner forward Paul Daly, Odhran McIntrye, Ciaran Flannery, Paul Quirke and Paudie McIntyre.  Clara scored their 3rd point of the second half just minutes before the final whistle.  St Rynaghs ran out convincing winners.  St Rynaghs 1-16 Clara 0-9.  St Rynaghs fielded a very under strength team and the lads played good direct no nonsense football on the evening.  Des O’Connor played very well in the unusual surroundings at full back.  Tomas Flaherty held his own at center back and on his right Odhran McIntyre had a fine game.  Ciaran Flannery was in terrific form at midfield and in the forwards Gary Mahon, Paudie Mulhare, Peps Grogan and Sub Timmy Gilmore all played well on the evening.  St Rynaghs team:  Gary Kelly, Conor Daly, Des O’Connor, Alan Camon, Odhran McIntyre 0-2, Tomas Flaherty, John Kerin, Ciaran Flannery 0-4, Paul Quirke 0-2, Sean Kenny 0-1, Gary Mahon 0-3, Barry Rafferty, Paul Daly 0-1, Paudie Mulhare 0-3, Martin Grogan.  Subs Timmy Gilmore 0-1 for Alan Camon, Adam Smyth for Barry Rafferty.  Referee:  Michael Mahon, Shannonbridge.

Our U12’s are playing Shamrocks at Cloghan GAA Grounds this Wednesday evening 1st June at 7.30pm.  All players please be in the dressing rooms at 6.45pm.  Our new clubhouse is taking great shape and should be completed in the next few months.  It is really state of the art and a great credit to everyone involved.

Just a reminder that on Sunday June 5th at 4pm, seven a side teams of Offaly Legends will participate for the Stevie McDermott Memorial Cup at Cloghan GAA grounds.  Proceeds will go towards the Offaly Cancer support group Dochas.  Refreshments will be served on the evening.  St Rynaghs football club is encouraging everyone to support this very worthwhile venture.

The St Rynaghs Lotto is now €17,900 and the club is hoping people will buy tickets in the Cloghan area, as what the football club makes in sales is crucial for the costs and running of our club.

To mark the opening of our new club house in the near future Mattie Rosney PRO and  Paddy Doyle are compiling a booklet to mark the occasion.  If anyone has old GAA pictures or GAA information please contact Mattie on 0876297761 or Paddy on 087 2879264.  Your pictures will be returned to you on completion of the booklet.  Visit our website on
