Cloghan National School were defeated by a very strong Mountbolus N.S team in the Cumann náBun Scoil Div 1 final which was played in St Brendan's Park, Birr on Saturday 12th November '11.  This was a nine-a-side competition and  and Mountbolus were a much stronger team physically and they used their physical strength to build up a comfortable half time lead.  In the second half the Cloghan team put on a brilliant display of football with all the various skills of the game on display.  A goal at the start of the second half by Shane Daly who also scored two great points was quickly followed by our own Lionel Messi, Sean Killer Kilmartin who's ball control and searing runs were causing huge problems for the Mountbolus defense.  He scored four great goals and three points.  Karl Coughlan also chipped in with a point and midfielder Sean Hanamy made a huge contribution with their three points.  Unfortunately their great work was not enough to win the game as Mountbolus finished the game very strongly.  On their way to this final Cloghan beat Rashina and Cloney Hurke but lost to eventual winners Mountbolus in the last game of the group stage.  There was 22 players on the Cloghan  panel with each player making a fine contribution throughout the year.  Cloghan scored a highly credible 5-9 in the final.  It is a score that would win any match but on the day defeat was their lot but they can be very proud of the way they played in the final.  The team was managed by Mrs Pauline Scales who teaches in Cloghan National School and who is doing great work in promoting Gaelic Football among the students.  Pauline was ably assisted by Martin Hanamy and John Daly, both men are giving countless hours of their time teaching the youth of the area about the skills of Gaelic Football.  Their efforts are hugely appreciated by parents and supporters alike.

St Rynaghs Panel:  Adam Meleady, Niamh Finneran, Gearóid Daly, Shane Daly 1-2, Sean Hanamy 0-3, Sean Kilmartin 4-3, Thomas Daly, Naoími Wynne Smith, Jessica Wynne Smith, Ger Sheridan, Karl Coughlan 0-1, Lisa Leonard, Diarmúd Gannon, Elisha Connolly, Beth Camon, Niamh Clancy, Rachel Slevin, Cormac Daly, Brendan Cooney, Cíara Kilmartin, Sean Finneran, Nathan Fitzmaurice.  The Game was refereed by Martin Walsh, Birr.

In last weeks notes each member of the U16B Championship winning team was names for their great contribution which culminated with a great victory v Kilcormac-Killoughey in the final in Ferbane.  Unintentionally there was one glaring omission.  Young James Daly.  James played some great games in the U16B football championship this year and sincere apologies for omitting him from the list of players it was a genuine mistake.
