St. Rynagh's Football Club Notes : 18th April

On Monday night last, 11th April, in Cloghan hall, Maureen Kincaid of the Shamrocks GAA Club and Noel Tierney of Athlone IT gave a marvellous talk about various topics which concern our club. Some of these included coaching games development, facilities development, finance and fund raising and our club structure and administration. It was a very well attended meeting with 40 people present many who gave very positive ideas about the development of our club. The club would like to thank Noel and Maureen for their excellent talk on the night.

It was a busy week for our footballers. St Rynaghs played Shannon-bridge in Shannon-bridge in the last div2 league on Monday evening last. Shannon-bridge led at half time Shannon-Bridge 0-5 St Rynaghs 0-2. St Rynaghs two points coming from James Rafferty and Gary Mahon. In the second half James Rafferty scored an all important goal with Gary Mahon scoring 3 points and Paudie Mulhare scoring a point. Shannon-Bridge scored 3 points in the second half. The saints held out for a one point victory. St Rynaghs 1-6 Shannon-Bridge 0-8.

Also on Monday evening last at Cloghan GAA grounds, St Rynaghs U16 footballers played Kilcormac-Killoughey in the first round of the championship. It was all one way traffic towards the Saints goal mouth in the first half. Kilcormac-Killoughey scored a penalty in the 10th minute, Saints goalkeeper Evan Conroy parried the shot but the Kilcormac-Killoughey centre forward hit the net on the rebound. Kilcormac-Killoughey ended the first half with 1-6, 0-3 from frees to St Rynaghs no score. Five minutes into the second half Saints right half forward Andy Wynne scored a great point from play. In the 15 minute mark Kilcormac-Killoughey were awarded another penalty which resulted in another green flag being raised. On the 25th minute Saints centre forward Dean Flynn scored his teams only other score of the game a point from a 30m free. Kilcormac-Killoughey ran out comprehensive winners on a score-line 2-6 to 0-2. Best for St Rynaghs: Evan Conroy had a fine game in goals, Martin Daly at right half back, Andy Wynne at right half forward and Michael James at left half forward tried hardest.

Our U10 footballers were beaten by Shamrocks in the community games at Mucklagh on Monday evening last. St Rynaghs Team: Lewis Regan, Kealin Rigney, Evan Kelly, Aaron Kelly, Sean Kennedy, Carl Coughlan, David Rigney, Tómas Daly, Brian Rigney (Capt), Joe Brody, Jack Regan, Sean Finneran, Adam Houlihan, Alan Corcoran, Jacob Mahon. Subs: Brendan Brogan for Joe Brody, Owen Greene for Sean Kennedy. Referee: Pat Fleming, Clara.

St Rynaghs senior footballers played Rhode in the division 2 league in Banagher on Friday evening last. Rhode got off to a great start scoring two goals and a point in the first 10 minutes. They tacked on another 1-5 before the half time whistle. St. Rynaghs only score of the first half was a point from play by left half back Niall Flaherty. Half time score Rhode 3-6 St. Rynaghs 0-1. St Rynaghs improved in the second half scoring 1-7 to Rhodes 1-5. St. Rynaghs goal was scored by Odhrán McIntyre in the closing minutes. Rhode ran out easy winners Rhode 4-11 St. Rynaghs 1-8.
